The long-awaited somewhat triumphant return of the Ghoulzone Podcast! After 10 months of lying in the grave we reanimate and go back to shoving that sweet audible chocolate in your ears. At least I think that’s chocolate…

WARNING: this podcast was recorded under the influence of the following formula-

alcohol + caffeine = EXCESSIVE BABBLING

You have been warned.

First we catch up on where the podcast has been and where it’s going, followed by a somewhat sad drunken state of the podcaster news segment.

Next we discuss favorite horror podcasts that have ended or returned. Certain minor events from fellow podcasters are discussed at length as a call for clarification and in hopes that doing so doesn’t get me into trouble, and opinions are given about topics from The Horror Podcast Network to making money from podcasting and related philosophies.

Then comes the review of direct to video gem Monster Man and a call to give this film well deserved attention. It’s funny, well written, well acted, and contains some nice gore that’s skillfully done. So why isn’t it more popular?

Bask in the glow of the return of the podcast, because there’s nothing like a good glowbasking!

Episode 5 – Reposessed Zombies

It’s another long show which contains a few comments about avoiding doing a long show then proceeding to do a long show, following up with an apology for doing the long show.

There is much in-depth discussion about zombies and zombie movies, what is and what ain’t. Theories are theoried and complaining ensues, then much love and respect is given to zombie podcasts. Then we get rude again and tell everyone why they are so very very wrong. Finally, we give constructive advice and experiments you can try at home. The whole zombie thing is cleared up, and there is much rejoicing and the children get balloons and toys.

The DVD of Repo The Genetic Opera is reviewed, featuring simultaneous praise and disjointed nitpicking, and nostalgia for the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Testify!!

fotg-badgeEpisode 4 – Oh rats, it’s Larry!

Welcome to Chez Ghoulzone! Please, have a seat and be comfortable. You are just in time to join me and a crapload of gigantic worms, chickens, and rats as we chow down on everything in sight.

We start with soup and salad consisting of various news items, from the future of Ghostbusters and The Thing to the anticipation of the Halloween sequel.

For the appetizer, Rob Zombie is barbequed over an open flame, then defended, followed by more barbecuing and basted with my very own brand of extra-critical sauce. Mmm-MMM!

For the main course, my thoughts on horror movie remakes. Definitions are definitioned and hairs are split, and the whole thing is cleared up for everyone. It’s finger-lickin’-good theory.

For dessert, a rich cheesey review of Food of the Gods. Director Bert I. Gordon is famous for serving up some of the most undigestible films ever made, so be sure to have plenty of fiber and antacids on hand.

This entire meal amounts to a total of 2 solid hours of fine auditory eatin’. Here’s hoping you have nothing to do for awhile!

tgp-badgeEpisode 3 – Wrist cutting! Yay!

The show begins with talk of haunted houses and cheap housepaint. A criticism is made about other podcasts which should annoy some podcasters, but support is offered so maybe Fake Larry won’t look like a know-it-all jerk.

A visit from a strange neighbor occurs and puns are committed. In-depth discussion of the Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police DVDs is presented and much stuttering and confusion occurs in the face of the bloodiest films in recent memory. The mystery of whether or not Jason Voorhees is a zombie is finally solved, and t-shirts are made available to all. Then, there is metal.

Below are some screen caps from the modern masterpieces of Japanese filmmaking chaos, Machine Girl by writer/director Noboru Iguchi, and Tokyo Gore Police directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura, special effects man from the previous film. Upon viewing the films, it becomes immediately obvious that both men are very creative and drink WAY too much coffee.

f13-badgeEpisode 2 – Friday the 13th – An Old Beginning

This episode I talk about the  recent DVD issues of Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th part 3, finally in 3D as it was originally released. We go back in time to when the film was released, and I talk about how the first movie helped kick off my lifelong interest in horror. Yes, there will be anecdotes.

Then we move on to debunking several of the commonly held beliefs surrounding slasher movies and F13. Evidence is presented, points are discussed, and ranting ensues. There is also talk about appreciating what makes the Friday movies entertaining, and how the 3D in Part 3 causes headaches. Yes, there will be more anecdotes.

Below are the photos I talk about in the episode.

After all this time, do the Friday movies still deliver the scares?

mbv-badge1Ghoulzone Horror Podcast Episode 1: The Newbie Show.

I introduce the show and talk about what listeners can expect. I then promptly forget to talk about most of the reasons I was planning on mentioning. If you listen closely, you can hear the rusty gears in my head turning as I make a mental note to write myself a script from now on.

My Bloody Valentine 2009 is reviewed and comparisons to Alexandre Aja are pulled out of my ass for audience approval, because that’s how I roll.

I also take a look at the My Bloody Valentine special addition DVD. I appreciate the closure that came from the reinserted gore footage. It’s been a long time, and this film deserves to be seen as it was intended to be seen before the MPAA killjoys took out their scissors.

Here’s the shot early in the film that I mention on the show. Coalminers is good eatins!

For those of you who are demigods of podcasting, I appreciate your imput. Let me know if you have any issues with the RSS feed for the podcast or any trouble with the file or the download so I can correct the problems for smooth sailing in the future. I’m still newbie-ing all over the place and can use the help as I figure all this stuff out.

RSS Feed

fakelarry-lol    I’m working on the first few episodes. I’m going to post them all here and at podomatic to start, then figure out iTunes soon after.

There will be three episodes posted at once so that when I begin to tell people about the podcast officially, there will be more than just the one there to download. Needless to say there will not be any listener mail read on those episodes, but I figure by the time I do the fourth there will be feedback from the first three.

Episode 1 will introduce the show and I will be talking about the new DVD of the original My Bloody Valentine from 1981. Or rather, I will be raving about it.

Episode 2 will cover the recent issues of the Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th part 3 in 3D DVDs. I didn’t buy the second movie as it didn’t seem to offer much in the way of new material, which is odd because that was the first one that was chopped up under order of the MPAA. Go figure, I guess we Friday fans will have to go on waiting for that one.

The download area will be right here on the front page to the upper right, and the archive shows will be available on a seperate page you will find linked here on the front page, along with matching  RSS feed and the Podomatic website.

Stay tuned for more show stuff and other goofy shit.
